STEPHEN BRAY

Stephen Bray, a 40-year veteran of the Entertainment Industry with Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Grammy awards, has contributed to sales of over 100 million recordings. His credits include Record Producer, Songwriter, Executive Music Producer, Composer, Engineer and Artist.

His groundbreaking work with Madonna helped launch her career and established a sound that would be emulated by artists and producers for years to come. Bray is known for having co-written and produced many of Madonna’s classic hits, including “Into the Groove”, “Express Yourself”, “Crazy for You”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, “True Blue”, “Causing a Commotion” and many more. Other artists he has worked with include Jennifer Hudson, Gladys Knight, The Jets, Regina Richards, Debbie Harry, Kylie Minogue, and Jellybean. Bray was also a writer, producer and member of the Grammy-nominated band Breakfast Club.

His Film and TV credits as Songwriter, Music Producer and/or Music Supervisor include Respect, Juanita, Peeples, Pose, Scream Queens, Stranger Things, Despicable Me III, Isn’t it Romantic, 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards, Beverly Hills Cop IIDesperately Seeking SusanWho’s That Girl and Earth Girls Are Easy. He has created works for Sire, Warner Bros, MCA, Atlantic, Epic, Sony, Geffen, EMI America and Hollywood Records. Recently, Bray served as Executive Music Producer for the 2021 Aretha Franklin biopic Respect.

In 2005, his Broadway debut as composer / lyricist of The Color Purple earned him one of the musical’s 11 Tony nominations. In 2017, he won a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater Album (The Color Purple) and the show won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
